ommwriter.

*This is a scheduled post - I'll be back so very soon! xo.

I love writing. Whether it's a blog post, a letter to a friend, a random story or script idea, or just writing my thoughts out... sometimes it feels so good to write it all out and empty my brain. I write in a journal and have notebooks for ideas, but it's also nice to just type.

Here's the thing, though... I get distracted. Real distracted. By emails, Twitter, Pinterest, pretty blogs, you name it. My attention span is all over the place, and in order to truly get all of my thoughts, feelings, and ideas out - I need peace and quiet. No distractions.

My best friend is the raddest person ever (hi Nae!) - and she recently showed me OmmWriter. I love it. It's really a very simple idea, but it makes a world of difference. It's a fullscreen environment that turns off desktop notifications/alerts so you can focus on writing. The app was created by a super cool creative agency in Barcelona, and here's what they have to say about OmmWriter:

OmmWriter is a beautiful writing environment that helps you concentrate and create. It has the necessary tools you need to write and manage files, without the distracting elements that you normally find in conventional writing applications. OmmWriter opens in fullscreen mode, and has a number of backgrounds and audio tracks to increase your concentration, and to create an open space where your creativity can roam freely.

We created OmmWriter to make focused writing available everywhere you go with a Mac, PC or iPad and a set of headphones.

We believe that if you are in a beautiful and inspiring environment, you will write and create the beautiful and the inspiring. If you are a scriptwriter, blogger, journalist, copywriter, poet or just someone who enjoys writing, welcome back to concentrating and creating.

Awesome, right? There are two versions of OmmWriter: the first one is free, while the second one (with more visual and audio experiences) is available for purchase. You can download both here.

  2. All the love in the world for ommwriter! I was so happy when they finally made a PC version of it. The best thing are the type sounds, though; I could listen to them all the time, it really makes me type anything just to listen to them :)

  12. This looks great, thank you for sharing! I'm excited to use this both for personal writing and for school writing, from which it's far too easy to get distracted. When I switched from a PC to a Mac I was so excited because Word was so much more aesthetically pleasing on the Mac that I thought it would be much easier to write, but this is much beyond that.
